About Business Resource Hub
An independent publication for small business owners, operators and independent professionals who sign off on their own spending.
Why this exists
Most business advice is written for organisations with departments — a marketing team, an IT provider, a finance function. In an owner-run business one person is all three, usually after hours, and the questions are narrower and more urgent than the advice: is this quote fair, what will the software really cost by year two, can I afford to advertise at all, what does my hour have to earn?
We answer that kind of question with ranges, arithmetic and stated assumptions instead of encouragement. Where the honest answer is "it depends", we say what it depends on. Where we do not know, we say that too.
Who we write for
Readers are typically running a business with between one and twenty people — a trade, a shop, a clinic, a small agency — or working for themselves and pricing their own time. We are not writing for enterprise buyers, and we are not writing for investors. That focus decides what gets covered: a £2,000 decision made once matters more here than a market trend.
What we cover
- Software — Tools that earn their monthly fee.
- Websites — What a site should cost and do.
- Marketing — Spend that can be measured.
- Operations — Pricing, cash flow and process.
- Business Technology — Security, hardware and automation.
How the library is built
The catalogue is small on purpose. We would rather rework an existing guide when prices move than add another page beside it, so most of the week goes on revision: rechecking vendor pricing, correcting a range that has drifted, cutting a paragraph that no longer helps. Each piece is meant to stand on its own, and each shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed so you can judge the figures for yourself.
The calculators exist for the same reason. Where a guide would otherwise ask you to do sums on the back of an envelope, we build the sum instead. They run in your browser, keep nothing, and ask for no email address.
Who writes it
Pieces are produced by the Business Resource Hub editorial team, drawing on experience of running and advising owner-managed businesses, vendors' published pricing, and figures we have checked ourselves. Illustrative examples are labelled as illustrative; we do not present invented case studies, testimonials or statistics as real ones.
How the work is paid for
The site is funded by display advertising kept out of the reading column, and by a small number of disclosed affiliate links to products we would have named regardless. Neither buys coverage, placement or a verdict. The detail is in our editorial policy and affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
If a figure has gone stale or is simply wrong, tell us — get in touch and we will fix the page and update its review date.
