How we are paid, in plain terms, and where that stops.

The short version
A few of the links to software and services here are affiliate links. If you follow one and subscribe, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you and at no different price than you would pay going direct. It is a minor part of our income and it does not decide what we recommend, how we order a comparison, or how bluntly we describe a product's weaknesses.
Where you will see them
- A piece containing affiliate links says so at the top, before its first recommendation.
- They appear only where the product was already the right answer to the question the piece is asking.
- Comparison tables are ordered by the reasoning stated in the piece — a commission never moves a row up.
- Paid reviews, sponsored posts and paid link placements are not accepted.
Display advertising
The site also carries display advertising, served through a third-party ad network. Ad slots are labelled, sit outside the reading column, and are not dressed up to resemble our own writing. Advertisers get no say in what we publish and no advance sight of it.
How we decide what to recommend
The criteria are set out in our editorial policy: whether it suits a business without an IT department, what it costs once add-ons and extra users are counted, how it behaves when something breaks, and how hard it is to leave. When the cheaper option is good enough — or a spreadsheet is — that is what we write, commission or not.
